At Gateway Chiropractic South Shore PLLC, we take great pride in providing the finest chiropractic wellness care to our patients. Below is a sampling of the different chiropractic services we offer in our League City office.

Chiropractic Care

We provide advanced spinal correction utilizing "state of the art" chiropractic techniques. Never in the history of chiropractic have we been able to provide the level of help and expertise that now exists. A manual thrust applied by the doctor to help restore normal movement within the joint, thereby reducing nerve irritation and improving nerve function.  It also helps to relieve pain through the release of endorphins, increase range of motion and flexibility of the joints.

These newer correction methods are even safer, more comfortable and more effective than ever before. As a Doctor of Chiropractic, Dr. Jack Fulkman has years of training and experience in spinal adjustment.

Physical Medicine / Sports Medicinecan be divided into two groups, Passive Care (Modalities) and Active Care (Therapeutic Procedures).  Generally, modalities are used in the acute phase of treatment while active care tends to be utilized in the corrective phase.  These two groups of therapies and when they are used depends on the condition and individual case.

Passive Care Modalities

Cryotherapy (the use of ice and ice/cold packs) is used in the acute phase, within the first 72 hours of injury, to reduce blood flow to the area.  This reduces/prevents swelling and inflammation while also numbing the area to decrease pain.  It is also beneficial in cases of severe spasticity and acute exacerbations (flare-ups).

Thermotherapy (the use of moist heat pads) is used during the subacute/chronic phases to produce moist superficial heat, thus increasing the blood flow to the injured area to promote tissue healing, while relaxing the muscles to reduce spasms and prepare the tissue for stretching and rehabilitation.

EMS (Electrical Muscle Stimulation) uses an electrical current to stimulate the muscles and provides pain relief by triggering the release of the body's natural pain killers (endorphins), while also helping to reduce spasms and swelling by creating a pumping action within the muscle leading to an increase in muscle relaxation.

US (Ultrasound) uses sound waves to increase the absorption of heat to a deeper penetration level and provide a micro-massage of the tissues, thus providing pain relief, reducing spasms and restoring the tissue to normal functional capacity while also helping to break-up scar tissue/adhesions and speeding the healing process.

Active Care Therapeutic Procedures

MFR/DTM (Myofascial Release/Deep Tissue Massage) is a manual therapy technique used to increase circulation, reduce spasms and break-up adhesions within strained/injured muscles, thereby improving their functional capacity.  Trigger point therapy reduces chronic muscle spasms, helps prevent adhesion formation, improves muscle tone and promotes tissue healing.

Therapeutic Exercises are a series of prescribed workout routines specifically designed for you by the doctor to help reeducate the body on proper biomechanics by increasing endurance, flexibility, range of motion, stretching and strengthening of the involved area(s).  Neuromuscular reeducation involves specific activities incorporating movement, balance, coordination, kinesthetic sense, posture and/or proprioception for one or more areas of the body.  Gait training includes instruction on the manner or style of walking, including rhythm and speed and the three phases of gait.

We teach our patients special "blueprint" exercises designed just for them to help strengthen and correct their own unique problem. These exercises can be performed in the comfort of your own home and can improve the effectiveness of your spinal correction by as much as 30-40%. In addition to skeletal misalignment, muscles and connective tissues can be out of place or strained by improper alignment and use. Specific exercises and stretches can help your body stay in balance and in health.

Mobilization (Active and Passive) is the moving of a joint through its normal range of motion.  This can be done passively- the doctor performing the movement, or actively- the patient using his/her muscles to move the joint.  This helps to increase/restore normal range of motion, improve flexibility, stretch muscles/ligaments and prevent adhesions within the joint.
